Can friends or family accompany me to my course?
For safety reasons, only students enrolled in an Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy course can be in our classroom or on our range facility.
Will I be asked about any physical or medical conditions or medications?
For safety reasons Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy must be aware of any physical or medical conditions that may impact a student’s ability to operate a firearm safely and follow instructor / Range Safety Officer instructions and directions. Students will be asked to identify such conditions prior to the start of training. Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy will not inquire about any medical or physical conditions for other than student and staff safety purposes.
Students should bring all required medications.
What other items should I bring with me to my course?
Students should bring pen/pencil and note pad for classroom portion of their course. Students can bring portable chair to sit on while at the range. Students are welcome to bring NON ALCHOLIC beverages of their choice to the course. Snacks / bag lunches are welcome as well.
What about lunch?
Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy builds time into our training schedules to allow students to have lunch. Students should be advised that lunch facilities and/or locations to purchase lunch may be some distance from the classroom or range.
Will weather conditions impact my course?
Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy trains rain or shine. The principle instructor and / or Range Safety Officer will make the final determination if the weather presents a safety hazard to range firing. Students should be aware of current weather conditions and bring appropriate clothing. Students should be aware that weather conditions can and often do change rapidly.
What if I don’t have my own firearm or ammunition?
Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy will have a limited number of firearms available for rent as part of a student enrollment package. Ammunition will be available for purchase from Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy for US CITIZENS ONLY as per United States BATF regulations.
Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy will not sell (wholesale or retail) firearms or ammunition to non US citizens as per United States BATF regulations. Firearms and ammunition for NON US CITIZENS will be available for a fee as per of their student enrollment package. All Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy firearms cannot leave Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy classrooms or range facilities and must be returned to the company upon completion of the course. All ammunition must be expended during the course and cannot be taken away from our range facility.
Is eye and hearing protection required during my course?
Eye protection is required for all Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy courses. Hearing protection (electronic preferred) is also required for all Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy courses.
What kind of ammunition can I use during my Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy course?
Due to the potential liability and hazards of using reloaded or remanufactured ammunition, all ammunition used while taking part in training conducted by Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy must be new, factory-made ammunition specific to the student’s firearm. Students should consult their firearm owner’s manual and the information stamped on their firearm barrel or chamber for the proper ammunition type and caliber.
We require the use of jacketed bullets. The bullet design may be full metal jacket (FMJ), total metal jacket (TMJ, jacketed soft point or jacketed hollow point. +P and +P+ ammunition is discouraged from use.
The following types of ammunition are not permitted for use in any Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy course:
• Steel jacketed ammunition (test your ammo with a magnet)
• Steel cored bullets (test your ammo with a magnet)
• Lead bullets with no jacket (except for use in revolvers)
• Lead bullets with thin copper “wash”
• Armor piercing, tracers or other incendiary ammunition
• Frangible ammunition
Student ammunition will be inspected by Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy prior to use. Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy retains the right of final approval, for use in class, of all ammunition.
What type of holster will I need during my course with Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy?
All holsters, regardless of type, must be specific for the student’s weapon. The holster must secure the weapon during stationary firing and while the student conducts movement required during the period of instruction. The holster must cover the trigger guard and be worn on a waist belt. NO thigh holsters may be utilized during Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy conducted training. Holsters with a trigger guard retention device…Serpa style holsters…are strongly discouraged. Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy will inspect all student holsters for safety and functionality prior to use in class. Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy retains the right of final approval, for use in class, of all holsters.
What type of firearm may I use while taking a pistol course with Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy?
All pistols used by students participating in Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy conducted course(s) must have all factory installed safety devices present and fully functional. Trigger guards must be present. Modified triggers are discouraged. Triggers that have been modified must have a “pull” weight of 4 lbs or greater. Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy will inspect all student pistols for safety and serviceability prior to use in class. Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy retains the right of final approval, for use in class, of all pistols.
