COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy “Day at The Range” course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for operating a pistol safely. It is designed to provide new shooters the opportunity to learn firearm safety and operation in a NO-STRESS environment. Experienced shooters will learn as well, and enjoy the opportunity to hone their skills on Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy reactive steel targets. This course is perfect for small groups and families who want to spend the day participating in the shooting sports in a highly safe environment with experienced and professional NRA certified instructors. This course is at least 5 hours long and includes classroom and range time dedicated to learning to shoot semi-automatic pistols. Students will learn rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; loading, unloading and clearing a firearm. Shooting fundamentals including proper grip, correct shooting stance and proper sight alignment and sight picture will be stressed. Students will be taught range rules and safe conduct while on the firing line. Upon completion of the “Day at The Range” students will receive an Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy certificate.
EQUIPMENT:
Firearm: Firearms are available rent from Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy commensurate with all US BATF regulations. Students are also welcome to utilize their own personal firearms during the course. All pistols used by students participating in Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy conducted course(s) must have all factory installed safety devices present and fully functional. Trigger guards must be present. Modified triggers are discouraged. Triggers that have been modified must have a “pull” weight of 4 lbs or greater. Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy will inspect all student pistols for safety and serviceability prior to use in class. Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy retains the right of final approval, for use in class, of all pistols.
Magazines: Minimum 2 magazines.
Ammunition: Minimum 50 rounds required. 9mm ammunition is available from Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy commensurate with all US BATF regulations. Students are also welcome to utilize their own ammunition during the course. Ammunition must be appropriate type and caliber for the firearm which the student will utilize during the class. Appropriate ammunition is listed in your firearm owner’s manual and indicated on the firearm barrel or chamber top. No hand loaded ammunition.
Due to the potential liability and hazards of using reloaded or remanufactured ammunition, all ammunition used while taking part in training conducted by Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy must be new, factory-made ammunition. We require the use of jacketed bullets. The bullet design may be full metal jacket (FMJ), total metal jacket (TMJ, jacketed soft point or jacketed hollow point. Frangible ammunition is not permitted.
Prohibited Ammunition:
The following types of ammunition are not permitted for use in any Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy course:
• Steel jacketed ammunition (test your ammo with a magnet)
• Steel cored bullets (test your ammo with a magnet)
• Lead bullets with no jacket (except for use in revolvers)
• Lead bullets with thin copper “wash”
• Armor piercing, tracers or other incendiary ammunition
Student ammunition will be inspected by Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy prior to use. Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy retains the right of final approval, for use in class, of all ammunition.
Hearing protection: Electronic is recommended. Hearing protection is available for rent from Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy
Eye protection: Eye protection is available for rent from Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy.
Clothing: Appropriate for outdoor activity and current weather conditions. Baseball or other style hat, sun screen, bug repellent, allergy medication (if needed), chair (if you have a problem with sitting on the ground, note taking paper/pen/pencil.
RANGE OPERATIONS:
All range operations will be conducted with student and staff safety as the foremost consideration. All range activities and shooting events will follow the guidelines and procedures set forth in the NRA Range Safety Officer Course.
A detailed Range Safety Briefing will be presented to all students prior to any shooting activity. This Range Safety Briefing will cover; Purpose of the shooting event, range layout and limits, Range Safety Rules, Firing Line commands and Emergency Procedures.
