COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. This course is at least 8-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet; take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate.
EQUIPMENT:
Firearm: The weapon must be fully functional, have all factory-installed safety devices intact, and have no dangerous modifications (such as a “hair” trigger less than 4 pounds, removed trigger guard, etc.). Holster appropriate for firearm. Minimum 2 magazines. Firearms are available rent from Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy commensurate with all US BATF regulations.
Ammunition: 50 rounds required. Ammunition must be appropriate type and caliber for the firearm which the student will utilize during the class. Appropriate ammunition is listed in your firearm owner’s manual and indicated on the firearm barrel or chamber top. No hand loaded ammunition. 9mm ammunition is available from Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy commensurate with all US BATF regulations.
Hearing protection: Electronic is recommended. Hearing protection is available for rent from Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy
Eye protection: Eye protection is available for rent from Eagle Ridge Firearms Academy.
Clothing: Appropriate for outdoor activity and current weather conditions. Baseball or other style hat, sun screen, bug repellent, allergy medication (if needed), chair (if you have a problem with sitting on the ground, note taking paper/pen/pencil.
RANGE OPERATIONS:
All range operations will be conducted with student and staff safety as the foremost consideration. All range activities and shooting events will follow the guidelines and procedures set forth in the NRA Range Safety Officer Course.
A detailed Range Safety Briefing will be presented to all students prior to any shooting activity. This Range Safety Briefing will cover; Purpose of the shooting event, range layout and limits, Range Safety Rules, Firing Line commands and Emergency Procedures.
